Lancashire | Two new youth zones announced

The Conservative controlled Lancashire County Council continued with its 2009 election pledge commitment this week by announcing another two young people's Youth Zones would be built.

Lancashire fostering service praised in PM Question Time

Local MP Jake Berry heaped praise at Prime Ministers Questions on Lancashire County Council's fostering service following an "oustanding" Ofsted report. Chairman of the Corporate Parenting Board County Councillor Tony Winder (pictured) was also praised by the Rossendale and Darwen MP.

Charnock Richard A-road safety measures date fixed

New safety measures along the A49 Preston Road through Charnock Richard are set to be completed by the end of February.Already part of the road from the Euxton boundary has had its speed limit reduced.  But further measures around the more difficult parts of the road are to get edge posts, new road markings and additional arning signs.Local Conservative County Councillor Peter Malpas said that he regularly receives news of cars leaving the road as they fail to negotiate the various bends, and these measures are very welcome.  Motorists unsure of the area will have better warning of the road layout.

New school step nearer for Barnoldswick

New School is One Step Nearer! Pupils, staff and parents of Barnoldswick's York Street, Church of England School are celebrating at the prospect of their new school being built.
Earlier this month Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Schools, gave the go ahead after consultation for the next stage of planning.

Superfast Broadband on its' way to Lancashire

Conservative controlled Lancashire County Council has agreed a deal that will bring superfast Broadband to 97% of the County by 2014 with speeds in excess of 30 Mbps.The deal with Lancashire's County Council partner BT means that another third of the County will get superfast broadband beyond areas already receiving or expecting to receive the new service.
